TRICHOPTILOSIS
Trichoptilosis syn. Fragilitis Crinium ' Split ends ' -
Hairshafts become dry and exhibit splits which can flay - reminiscent of feathers.
The condition is caused by excessive exposure to chemical / thermal hairdressing procedures (colouring, relaxing,permanent-waving, tongs, straightening irons, hairdriers etc)
Such damage cannot currently be repaired but new the generations of hair-shafts will be less vulnerable if regimes of care are employed.
The condition may also be exhibited in trichorrhexis nodosa, monilethrix, trichothiodystrophy, bubble hair syndrome and due to frequent shampooing.
The Society lists practising trichologists who may be consulted.
