Alopecia Totalis (total scalp baldness)

Alopecia Areata is regarded as an autoimmune condition. It usually presents as one or more circumscribed patches of baldness.
Alopecia Totalis commences as an Alopecia Areata patch which is rapidly joined by others which coalesce creating baldness of the entire scalp. The disease may resolve spontaneously or following treatment, or may show resistance to cure. Recurrences are possible. Fingernails may demonstrate pitting's and/or ridges.
