What is a Trichologist
(as Registered with The Society)

Definition

TRICHOLOGY (from trikhos Gk. n.- Hair)

A learned profession specific to human scalp and hair in health disease and distress.

-------------------------------------------------

History

We are informed that a pioneering form of 'trichology' was initially practiced circa 1860 by a 'Professor' Wheeler of Regent Street, London, a pioneer in this and other fields of alternative medicine.

The twentieth century witnessed the establishment of trichology as a science. A basic form of the science is currently offered primarily to hairdressers by private bodies and some state colleges.

The Trichological Society's trichologists are very different

The Society's perception of trichology is very different. It regards trichology as a medical science and presents its pure trichology graduates as "
practitioners of integrity with proven expert knowledge of this specialist medical / scientific discipline who justify the respect of authority and the other caring professions".

At enrolment The Society's students possess educational standards equitable with university entrance or above.
The Society also considers mature students on individual merit.

Through its own distance learning educational courses set at UK degree level, it produces graduate trichologists with an unequalled level of academic and professional excellence.

Be aware therefore - Not all trichologists are the same.

As with many professions, the title 'trichologist' is not protected by law.

Self styled, unqualified persons can legally practice as trichologists.
Standards of training (where given) vary greatly, as does the knowledge, integrity and quality of service provided by practitioners.
Vulnerable persons are the victims.

-------------------------------------------------

The Trichological Society's Diploma Course & Philosophy.

The Society has established its degree-level course of study in pure trichology leading to Registration and Listing within the CONSULTANT Practitioners section of this web site.

The Society's Graduate Trichologists have successfully completed the prescribed educational programme (Open University style) set at degree level and examined externally by appropriately qualified professionals.
The course is available to mature English speaking students worldwide with sound academic backgrounds.
The majority of The Society's current students are University Graduates.

The courses which take 2-6 years depending upon entry qualifications are expected to preclude all but the most determined and tenacious individuals.
Details may be scrutinised in the Education Pages on this web site. (See lower section of this page).

Graduate members bear the post nominal letters LTTS or FTTS.

Many UK Lawyers and some Judges continue to seek the opinion of properly trained trichologists in both criminal and civil cases.

The Society publishes details of its Registered Practising Trichologists on this website. Each person is-

•  Qualified to the Society's standards viz: A Graduate of The Society.
•  Has been proposed and elected to membership by The Society's Governing Council.
•  Is considered reputable, professional and has full Professional Indemnity Insurance.
•  Is obligated to observe The Trichological Society's Constitution and its Ethical Practice Code.

Any listed trichologist failing to maintain the high standards required by The Society is removed from membership.
Currently the education course which is outlined below is attracting students from America, China and UK.
